It’s strange to me how you can like things immediately. You open up a book and begin reading it and just find it life changing before you’ve even finished it.
Even book series have fans before the last book is out, so people love it without knowing how the story ends. TV shows too have to have fans before the story is over if they want to survive.
Being a fan of something unfinished is an act of faith because you have to trust that the creators will do a good job. And, of course, sometimes they don’t. I know of people who have been so angered by endings that they no longer considered themselves fans, but that’s a huge exception.
Typically, even people upset with an ending still consider themselves fans. I think that says a lot about how deep being a fan of something can be. Being unhappy with parts of it doesn’t take away from whatever magic drew you into it in the first place.
But what exactly is that initial feeling that has you falling in love with something before you even know all the ins and outs of it? I think there’s some initial spark there, and I have yet to figure out what it is. Probably because it varies from person to person. What I do know is that it’s a pretty great feeling.
